Thanks for clearing this up. For maximum performance, install the driver for the JMicron controller Gigabyte calls it a Gigabyte controller and connect the SATA drive to one of the purple ports. This device must also be properly configured in the BIOS, where there are several items related to it.
These are supported in the bios and by the chipset software, so no additional drivers are required. And to repeat, no raid intended. I just want a boot HDD with a few extra partitions.
I'm not sure at this time what this does or what it should be set at. It is both on the CD and on the Gigabyte web site.

Watch as the OS starts to load at the bottom for a prompt to press F6 to load any raid drivers, then sit back and wait for it to set itself up, when it's ready it will prompt you to install the drivers, press S to install the drivers and select the driver for your system presumably 32 bitonce it loads it press enter to continue the install, everything from there on is as per any other installation, if you did it right it will install, if it went wrong it will tell you there are no drives to install to and ask you to abort the install. One thing to note, if you happen to have any ide drives still connected, make sure the PC is Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 SATA2 RAID off then open the case and disconnect them, otherwise you will find they will try to become the C Drive, and I'm assuming you want your raid drives to be your C Drive.
Everything I have on here is Win 7 compatible and the system ran stable when it Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 SATA2 RAID XP. Looking in the error logs from my latest lockup, which would not let me boot into Windows, I am seeing a lot of errors that are relating to the Hard drives and to the JRAID.
I even got the Sata2 drivers from Gigabyte and still have had no joy. I went through Bios and nothing is overclocked, all stock settings and tried the AHCI settings for Sata and disabled ittried Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 SATA2 RAID different things and nothing seems to give me the stability I need to play my Wow!
